I don’t think net neutrality has a chance of survival, as a concept, in the long-term. Even my nerdiest friends have difficulties explaining it to peers, let alone lay persons. It’s at its core a boring, theoretical issue that “just” levels the playing field for everyone.
If you never profited from that level playing field, you won’t understand what it means to lose it. Hell, you probably won’t even understand why you’d need it and how it works.
So the public at large won’t care and is easily influenceable by those with money and power, that have recently proven they have no interest in keeping the status quo that made them into what they are now. And with that, there’s no one left to effectively prevent network discrimination in the future.
It’s a shamefully sad affair in my opinion and I’m glad I don’t have kids that I’d have to give an account of how we fucked this one up so badly.
